"Hysteroscopy pain was like being stabbed internally"

About: Princess Royal Hospital (Haywards Heath)

(as a service user),

I attended for hysteroscopy last year. No anaesthetic. The pain was horrific. The consultant had difficulty getting into the uterus and after a lot of prodding, gave up and used a bendy implement.

Finally got in and the pain was like being stabbed internally. Started gagging and the room began to spin.

I was asked if I wanted to continue. This was as I dry heaved into a cardboard bowl. I was then told ‘I’ll be unable to continue if you’re sick’. As I was on the verge of passing out I said I didn’t want to continue.

I was told ‘not all women can tolerate it’. Making me feel it was my fault and I wasn’t ’strong enough’.
