After a positive qFIT test I was referred for a colonoscopy, my appointment was at the Vale of Leven Hospital and I was so nervous.
You always hear negative stories about these procedures but that was not my experience. As soon as I got to the ward the nurses were fab, chatted away to make me feel less nervous and explained everything.
I opted to have sedation so needed a needle in my arm, was quick and painless. The Consultant was fab, funny and chatty as were the nurses during the procedure.
Sedation just makes you feel a wee bit more relaxed but you are aware of everything going on. I watched the procedure on the screens, it was so cool to see. I had no pain during the procedure, a slight cramping at one part but nothing worse than a period pain. The whole thing took about 25 minutes.
After the procedure I was taken back to the ward, you can sleep for a wee bit if you want to, I felt fine so had toast and tea - it was fab!
I arrived at 830am and I was picked up at 1030am.
All in all I would give my care 10 out if 10! The NHS may be struggling in some areas but its biggest asset is the staff. If you have to go for this procedure your in good safe hands at the Vale of Leven Hospital ✋️
