Health visitor Karen came out for a routine review of my son and daughter. I had concerns over my son’s development which I hadn’t spoken to anyone about and I had been really struggling mentally, I felt out of control and feelings of helplessness and despair every day. Karen was so lovely at the review I felt comfortable to speak openly with her and she was so empathetic. I had a follow up call some days later with Karen and I will always remember standing in my bathroom drifting back the tears and she said it was her privilege to be my health visitor and that I was brave for opening up. In that moment I went from feeling weak to strong. In a healthcare system where you sometimes feel just like another number she made me feel important and worthy of help. Karen has put so many measures in place for me and helped me secure the right help and I know with her support I will continue to get better and help my son in his development.
