"A remarkable physiotherapist"

About: Ilfracombe Tyrrell Hospital / Therapies

(as the patient),

I had an appointment with Karen, a physiotherapist. I had a very good appointment and was given some very positive information. She spoke about all aspects of my condition as well as medication (when to take it etc).

She knew exactly how I have been feeling as she went through a similar thing when she was younger. She understood the pain and stress that I am feeling and was remarkable.

She helped to make a referral to a different service, as she deals with mechanical issues and walking and felt that I should speak to someone who can support more with my specific condition. I thought I was going to the appointment to learn some exercises, and was pleasantly surprised by Karen's support.

She also gave me advice on stools, as I have no room in my bathroom for special equipment, however, she advised me to lift my legs when on the toilet. I have a special chair and I use a stick as well. This is the best way forward at the moment. I get a lot of back pain and have had to try an not overdo things. I haven't really spoken to anyone about this.

All my life I have worked and looked after everyone, and now I need to accept and manage my condition, and limit what I do. I have long term pain, which isn't getting worse, however it's also not likely to go away. This can get frustrating and is very difficult at times. My daughter is my carer and does an amazing job - her cooking has become very good! Hopefully, the referral from Karen will help me get more support. Thank you Karen.

Dear snowwd85,

Thank you for taking the time to write to us about your positive physiotherapy appointment you had recently with Karan. It can be difficult to manage pain and stress and I am really pleased to hear that Karan was able to help you with this. I hope the onward referral that Karan facilitated continues to support you on this journey.

It is lovely to hear that your daughter is doing an amazing job as your carer, and an added bonus that she is becoming a good cook too:)

I will be so pleased to pass this kind feedback on to Karan.

I wish you all the very best for the future.

Best wishes

Liz Richards

Dear snowwd85

Thank you for taking the time to share your lovely feedback. You are very welcome and I am grateful and glad you felt able to share your experiences with me in our session.

I feel very privileged to be able to do what I do, so I am very happy to hear that I supported you.

I have sent a letter to your GP for the onward referral we discussed, you will likely need to check the GP has actioned the referral to ensure continuity of care.

Kindest regards and again thank you for your feedback.

Karan
