"I had to eat outside the toilet and sluice room"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Dumfries A&E due to heart issues at 9pm. I was told I would be admitted for observation. This never seemed to happen. I was kept on a hard trolley until I left the following day at 5pm. I was told I could get water myself from the drink dispenser, but as I was trapped on the trolley with the sides up, this was impossible. I was then moved to a corridor for the last 5 hours where I had no means of asking for help if my heart issues reappeared, and I was positioned directly outside the toilet and dirty utility room and expected to eat there. I dread to think of the germs expelled from the combination of the toilets and the dirty utility yet this is where they choose to put people. Others in the corridor had been moved to proper beds rather than hard trolleys, but I left A&E very sore, tired and extremely thirsty.

Dear cafecw45

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us, I am sorry that you have had a poor experience under the care of NHS Dumfries & Galloway in the Emergency Department.

I would like to learn more about your experience so I can share your story and observations with the Emergency Department team, with the aim of learning from your feedback. To that end, I would welcome the chance to speak to you about this, and would urge you to reach out to the Patient Experience Team at dg.patientservices@nhs.scot.

Thanks again for taking the time to let us know about your experience, I hope that you feel able to contact The Patient Experience Team to allow us to take this forward on your behalf.

Kind regards,

James.
