"A very positive summer scheme"

About: Specialist Child Health & Disability / Speech and Language Therapy Services

(as a parent/guardian),

My son was attending Speech and Language Therapy in John Mitchell place and he was lucky enough to be offered a place on their summer scheme last year. It was the first year of it and we didn't know what to expect.

From the moment he met with Kerith - the Speech and Language therapist - he was instantly at ease and got on so well with her. He can be shy and quiet at times, but Kerith was bright and bubbly with him and made the whole experience fun and enjoyable but all the while equipping him with brilliant tools for him to help manage his stutter.

He got a lot out of this and often talks about it. This was a brilliant idea and I hope it runs this summer as its so beneficial for the children. Kerith deserves massive praise for her kindness and enthusiasm and I feel my son got so much out of this! Any child that is offered a place on this course should definitely do this!

What a wonderful story to share, thank you! I totally agree, Kerith is a fantastic Speech and Language Therapist, with a very caring nature and bubbly personality. I know that she also really enjoyed the groups last summer and I was delighted to hear at the time how successful they were in providing effective strategies for the young people involved. Kerith feels strongly about providing the best, evidence based intervention and support for children on our caseload, whilst ensuring it is fun and enjoyable.

Your comments are very timely, as plans are currently underway to run these summer groups again for children on the stammering caseload. Feedback like yours helps us see the importance of ensuring they remain part of the suite of support we offer in future. I am so glad you took the time to reach out.
