"12 week scan - Relatively poor experience "

About: Royal Berkshire Hospital

You show up to your first scan excited, nervous and wanting to see your baby. You also would like the person seeing you to be welcoming and kind to make you feel comfortable throughout the process of seeing your baby for the first time.

The lady who did my scan was actually quite rude and seemed disinterested and wasn’t very friendly. As she’s meeting with expectant mums/ parents all day, you would think that she would have wanted to provide a safe and welcoming space. I cannot imagine how she would have delivered the news if anything was wrong.

She also moaned at me for running late. I did call and let them know I was running 5-10mins late due to absolutely nowhere to park either in the car park or on street. We had to park a short walk away from the hospital so that added a couple minutes on. I was within the 10 minutes I mentioned being late.

She said that if I was late to my 20 week scan that they most likely wouldn’t do it and I wouldn’t be able to reschedule. I thought that was a bit strange and not very reassuring for a pregnant person who is now hearing she could miss out on seeing her baby at the 20 week scan. I apologised for being late and said that it was just something out of my control that day.

If what she said was true about not being able to reschedule then it seems a bit harsh as sometimes, things can happen/ get in the way. If it’s not true, then she shouldn’t be scaring people into thinking that just to prove a point.

(Just to add that during my last pregnancy, everyone was so lovely, every member of staff that I interacted with! Just not great this time)
