"Feeling like I have my life back"

About: CGL Birmingham / East Hub

(as a service user),

I started drinking every night and sleeping all day, wasn’t in a good place, my hygiene was not very good, did not bother speaking with people and phoning family members.

This was my 2rd time going to CGL, the first time I did 7 weeks but went back to old ways, so back I went this time to Lonsdale House.

I really felt like I was getting somewhere and the staff are so lovely, the first few days was a bit stressful but soon settled in for the two weeks , my peers was great too all on the same journey made a few friends on the way after the two weeks was on line meetings for the next month which helped giving me coping skills which really did help been signed off.

Now feeling really like I have my life back. If it wasn’t for CGL I don’t think I would be here now 2 months off alcohol. CGL have great, caring staff.

Dear taurusjx34

Thank you for getting in touch with us about your experiences.

My name is Lydia and I am responsible for listening and responding to people's feedback.

I was so glad to hear that you have had a positive experience with us. It sounds like you were in a very difficult and challenging point of your life, and I can understand why you were self isolating away from other people.

Well done for choosing to seek and accept support again, as I appreciate some people can feel nervous or even avoid asking for support if they have used our services before. From what you have shared, it sounds like the first few days of engaging in support were difficult and again, so well done for pushing through and sticking with it.

It was great to read that you have met some friends through our support, as human connection with like-minded people is absolutely invaluable to anyone who is working towards recovery. I hope these relationships continue to flourish into the future so that you can all continue to support each other.

I'm really glad that the four weeks you spent on our online meetings provided you with some strategies to use as you move forwards. Investing time in receiving this type of support is something that people often overlook, yet it is a crucial step and provides lots of learning opportunities.

I will make sure your feedback is shared with the team of people who have supported you, and I am sure they will greatly appreciate it.

I hope you feel really proud of everything you have achieved on your journey to getting your life back and last but no means least, congratulations on your two months of abstinence which is a huge achievement in itself.

Take care and thanks once again for sharing your experiences,

Lydia
