"Disappointed in treatment "

About: Sloan Medical Centre

The GP that called me regarding my query as to what happens now that I’ve found out I’m pregnant - after 5 years of trying might I add, was incredibly dismissive and accusatory in his tone when I asked him to refer me to early ante-natal care as requested by my Gynaecology at the Thornbury. He said he didn’t understand what my consultant wanted Sloan medical centre to do and that I was too early too refer - despite me explaining that I’d been on fertility treatment and was considered high risk. He continued to speak to me in a rude and dismissive tone until I was firm that I be referred to the next available obstetrician, which were the exact words from my consultant, at which point he agreed to write a letter referring me. I’ve been with this surgery since I was an infant, and missed my lifelong GP (who passed away recently) incredibly during this appointment, because not only would she have been overjoyed at hearing of my pregnancy after many years of struggle but she’d have been helpful and laid out what happened next. I was already vulnerable and emotional and this individual, who did not even give me his name, made me feel as if I was asking for too much and being ridiculous - something that women of colour, often have to face. I am none the wiser as to the next steps of my pregnancy healthcare, and all he informed me was that he’d write a letter. I am very disappointed and feel I have been let down when I am at my most vulnerable, by my GP practice.
