"Outstanding care"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Cardiac Catherterisation University Hospital Hairmyres / Cardiology University Hospital Hairmyres / Coronary Care Unit

(as the patient),

I attended A & E in Hairmyres recently with a suspected heart attack. It turned out it was a heart attack and I have to say that the team in A & E played a huge part in saving my life. They were quite simply outstanding. They made me feel comfortable and were so considerate. Dr Green in A & E was amazing and she genuinely cared for my state of health and mind.

After receiving a stent from Dr Jong, who again was amazing, I was then transferred to the coronary care ward. The team in there, no matter who it was, are a credit to the ward and hospital. Susan, Mhari, Heather, Shirley and the rest of the team made sure that I was so well looked after in what was a genuinely scary time for me and my family.

I felt like a valued human being looked after by a caring, experienced and an empathetic team. The knowledge and expertise they demonstrated in every minute I was there was so comforting and it helped me get through the days after the heart attack.

I have never been treated in such an attentive and professional way in any medical environment in the past. I felt like I was their only patient and I really felt like I had made new friends by the time that I left. The consultants were also amazing and really made the experience more positive than I ever thought it would be.

I think it's easy to be traumatised after such an emotional experience, but the whole team never gave me the chance to sit with unanswered questions or to sit in my own thoughts for too long. From the minute I opened my eyes until I closed them, they were answering questions, educating me, comforting me, welcoming my family and friends and making me laugh, which was healing in itself.

I could use up the full 1000 words here telling you about the amazing team you have in the A & E and coronary care. From someone who never expected to have a heart attack at 48, the team should be praised for what they might regard as just doing their job. To me and my family it was life saving and I will never be able to thank them enough.

I can honestly say, had on heart that I have complete trust and faith in what the whole team does.

I would only ask that if possible they receive the praise from the senior team who read this feedback, they deserve to know how amazing and special they are.

Dear Healing Well

Thank you for sharing your lovely feedback following your recent heart attack. I am pleased to read that you received outstanding care throughout your treatment and that you have complete trust in the whole team.

Your comments will be appreciated by all the staff you have kindly mentioned as well as the wider team. I can assure you that your feedback will be shared with them all. Sudden illness at any age is very distressing and I can imagine how scary it must of been to know that you were having a heart attack.

You have shared how the team supported you in terms of answering questions, their knowledge and expertise, welcoming family and sharing some laughter. As you say, all part of the healing and recovery process.

Taking time to provide such kind and detailed feedback is incredibly thoughtful of you. Thinking of others and sharing your thanks is greatly appreciated by staff as it means so much to every one of us. It has certainly made me feel humbled to read your post. We work with incredible colleagues and its important we recognise the fantastic work that is done. You have managed to capture this, my sincere thanks to you for sharing.

I hope that you are recovering well and wish you all the very best
