"Oncology appointment"

About: Colchester General Hospital

Anything else?

My mum had a ct scan on 21st October and was admitted to the Emergency Assessment Unit, for what I do not know but assumed that as her diabetes control was not good as she was so poorly. However, it was stated that her blood protein levels were not good. However my sister and I were asked by the resident doctor to leave the room and asked why we thought my mum was in the unit and he confirmed that the ct scan had shown "considerable cancer". At the time we requested that my mother was not told she had liver cancer. Mum stayed in the assessment unit overnight and the next day I telephoned to be told that she could go home. On arrival I was informed that her purse had been stolen and that a doctor would speak to me. This never happened and furthermore a letter would be sent to her GP together with an oncology appointment. I have phoned continually now on a daily basis to find out when this appointment was to be to be told "why do I think that she should have an appointment?" The last time I actually spoke to someone who was a nurse she stated that on the following Wednesday she would see that my mums case would've discussed. I have telephone again to the Oncology Department today at 13:59 and received a message that the Oncology Department is open from 9:00 to 16:00 and yet I received a message to leave a message, which I did. However it is now 18:39 and nobody has returned my telephone call, no surprise there. No wonder there is an investigation into this hospital. I am totally disgusted by this total lack of service, especially for a woman of 86 years of age. What a total, total despicable way of treating a person

I apologise you’ve not had a good patient experience. We try really hard to improve our services based on the comments we receive from our patients, their relatives or carers. We would like the opportunity to discuss your experiences more fully and to apologise in person. If you are willing I would appreciate it if I could ask the matron to contact you. Could you email me, using the reference “Colchester General Hospital at 08/11/2013 19:34:09 ”, please? Many thanks Paul Searle, Head of Communications Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust info@colchesterhospital.nhs.uk
