"No disabled parking spaces"

About: Inverclyde Royal Hospital / Outpatients Inverclyde Royal Hospital / Xrays and Scans

(as a relative),

My husband suffers from Parkinson's disease and has a blue badge to enable him to have a wider space to get in and out the car as he struggles to get in and out. This morning he had to have a bone scan so we arrived at IRH in plenty time but there were no disabled spaces. There were quite a few cars parked with no blue badges . I feel this is disgraceful and that surely somebody should be checking these cars. There were no normal spaces either so we had to  walk from the overspill which took us quite a while because of his mobility.

Dear Hamyw87

Thank you for getting in touch via Care Opinion.

Please accept my apologies for the car parking issues you experienced at Inverclyde Royal Hospital.

Inverclyde Royal Hospital doesn’t have a formal legal parking management control system. This means that there is no formal sanction (I.e. Unauthorised Parking Notices) which can be applied against patients and visitors who park where they shouldn’t. There are a number of measures that we do take to make it clear what is, and isn’t appropriate use of these spaces, including regular monitoring, clear identification of the spaces, and challenging people who do park where they shouldn’t.

We are currently working with Inverclyde Council to implement a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) which would enable the Council Wardens to ticket vehicles parking in our disabled bays without blue badges to try to resolve this issue.

Please pass on my apologies to your husband.

Kind Regards

Nicole
