After 2 years on the waiting list, I got an opportunity to transfer to National Treatment Centre in Kirkcaldy Fife and am so grateful for that.
The building is purpose built and just a year old. Everyone I met was so kind and helpful. My Consultant, Mr Keenan, really looked at me and listened to me and was professional and helpful as well as kind and thorough. He took me to meet the pre-op team himself, not dismissing me from his room and that speaks to how he treats people (well). I got taken within 12 weeks of transferring to NTC Fife.
On the day of the op Beth (Nurse) took control of the paperwork and process; I met Nick (Anesthetist) who, again like Mr Keenan really paid attention and was professional and reassuring; Mr Keenan also met me and was reassuring and kind. They both explained exactly what would happen so I knew ahead of time and could ask questions.
When I got taken to the Anesthestis waiting room it all happened as Nick had said, but I got a bit anxious and asked the female nurse to hold my hand (do not remember her name but her kindness and empathy will stay with me always) - she even sorted my hair out once the oxygen mask went on! That is the last I knew until I woke in the recovery room with a young man asking me how I was - thought I must be still dreaming!!
Once on the ward Lyndsey and Morgan and Susan took over and were each very attentive, professional, kind and enjoyable company - they made things fun, in circumstances where that might not have been possible. Kirstin and Nanh (Physiotherapsits) got me out of bed and moving really quickly, and Marie, Occupational Therapist, helped there too with getting dressed etc. Alex was helpful and facilitated my discharge paperwork etc. And Carly kept everything very clean and tidy, with a big smile on her face throughout.
I was discharged within 36 hours of going into the hospital and able to climb the 30 steps from the street to my flat.
I cannot put into words how grateful I am to the whole team for their professionalism, kindness and caring. They clearly work well together and enjoyed what they do. They do it well. Very pleased to have been transferred to their care.
"Professionalism, kindness and caring"
