"Appointment at Rowan House"

About: Derriford Hospital

On Monday 25th April 2024, I attended Rowan House for removal of a small lesion on my right ear, I previously had what I was told was a biopsy, however after several phone calls to check it was needed I

was told definitely yes it was. Imagine my amazement when I went in for what I thought was a minor op, only to be told on reading my notes it was not necessary for any treatment, I am 85 had arranged for someone to drive me the 50 mile round trip, a total waste of my time, and staff time at Rowan house, probably depriving another patient an appointment.

Thank you for raising your concern through the Trust website. I am sorry to read you feel you had a wasted journey to the hospital for removal of a lesion that you had been listed to have surgery for. It appears, unknown to the Dermatology team, that another department had removed the lesion but had not made the dermatology team aware.

Whilst you feel you had a wasted journey the dermatology team had to review you to ensure the correct lesion had been satisfactorily removed.

Kind regards
