"Worked very hard to get their jobs done and done very well"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Orthopaedics (Wards 10a, 10b, 10c &10d) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / West of Scotland Major Trauma Ward (ward 1c) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Xrays and Scans Scottish Ambulance Service / Patient Transport Service

(as a service user),

Started when I went to clinic to see Andrew, my frame specialist. I was up to get checked out with my frame and the removal of 2 screw pins from my thigh.

I seen my 2 surgeons Nick and Tony, was good to see them and get the news my healing is going good with the xrays that was done. The girls were amazing in there sorry I didn't get your names!

So I went in to see Andrew and he started to dismantle the parts connected to the frame and the screw pins, it was now time for them to come out. Long story short I couldn't handle it due to me being allergic to pain! I have a very low pain threshold and after everyone coming in to help me I was admitted to 10D for to go to theatre for them to be removed the next day. I cant remember names from 10D apart from Sarah and the domestic guy that likes to tell jokes to make the patients smile and was happy to help anyone with anything! I had 2 nurses take me down to theatre but even after they introduced themselves and I was looking at the name tags to check the spelling of their names I don't remember with being knocked out!

After this I was moved from 10D down to the ward that I called everyone the angels of 1C. It was comforting to see the same faces, Stephen, Kerry, Jacqui, Lee, and Angus as well as new faces Natalie and Laura and again there is quite a few names missing off my list.

And how can I forget Jordann! Again pushing me to do my best and getting back up on my feet and building my confidence so I could get home. Giving me the best advice to try get my stiff/painful knee into a condition to work with. Lots of tears from me as usual with my pains. But again she helped me realise it's not as bad as I think it is, yes very painful but this should ease if I follow all her advice.

It wasn't a pleasant experience for me but it never is for anyone with injuries like mine. But the staff done their very best to help make me comfortable and control my pain as best they could even when short staffed, the guys worked very hard to get their job done and done very well.

Thank you to the Angels of  Queen Elizabeth University  Hospital! May your hard work be continually be recognised and rewarded!

Paramedics - Andy, Patient Transport - Andy was brilliant and very helpful to the 3 of us going up to the hospital at QEUH from the Ayrshire team, brilliant driver avoiding the bumps in the road as best as he could on the way up. Andy was checking in on me while waiting for me to take me back home, unfortunately I was kept in and I hope he found out quickly so he could get away with his other patients.

Shug and Ian both great paramedics I believe are based with the QEUH trauma, this is the second time Shug has brought me home. Brilliant driver and Ian kept my mind of my pain in my knee due to the bad roads on the way home. Both helped me out the ambulance and into the house making sure I was home safe. Thanks guys you both were brilliant to me!

Hi

Thank you for sharing the details of your recent treatment under the Limb Reconstruction Service at QEUH.

From your message, it seems that this was a difficult experience for you experiencing such severe pain. It is good to know that the team all pulled together to ensure you were admitted for your procedure and well cared for.

Our staff work very hard and it's always great for the team to hear such positive feedback, I will ensure that your kind words are shared with the Orthopaedic surgeons, Limb Reconstruction Nurse Specialist Andrew, the staff in the Ortho Out patient clinic, ward staff in 10D and 1C, Physio Jordann, the theatre staff and our ambulance colleagues.

I hope your pain has settled and you are continuing to make good progress.

Thank you again

Kind regards

Morag Busby, Major Trauma and Orthopaedic Lead Nurse
