"Lack of care and empathy"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Elderly Medicine (Wards 51, 52, 54,55, 57, 8a & 2a)

(as a relative),

My dad was admitted to QE where he was well looked after. He was then transferred Langlands ward 55 where his care went downhill.  Some staff did not seem caring at all and I felt their manner was unacceptable. My Dad has Parkinson’s and had contracted covid  while in the ward, but he  was told he was just lazy when asked to go to bed. My dad worked until he was in his 70s, so that remark really upset him.

I heard a nurse tell another patient to pee in his pad when he asked twice to go to the toilet.

Toilet was disgusting, there was poo on the outside of the toilet pan. I was regularly there for around 3 hours and never saw anyone cleaning at all.

Also the steady was not cleaned or wiped after several patients use . Only once did I see an auxiliary nurse wipe the steady .

My dad required the steady plus two staff  to go to the toilet and on more than one occasion he was told there wasn’t another member of staff to help and they didn’t come back. I don't believe that is good enough.

One member of staff was not caring or helpful to us at all.  My dad was made to feel he was a nuisance therefore wouldn’t ask to go to bed when he was tired .

There were some caring staff but our overall experience in Langlands was lack of care and empathy .
