What I liked

Yesterday, June 20 I was a patient at North Tynside Hospital and underwent an operation on my knee. The clinical and nursing care were excellent and I returned home confident that all was well and I had received as good treatment as is available anywhere.Naturally enough I approached the day apprehensive but was put at my ease by the nurses and the consultant surgeon. They cared!Excellent provision

What could be improved

The young woman at the reception desk immediately inside the main entrance was chewing gum (without wishing to be politically incorrect - in a most unlady-like way) and created a very poor impression; well short of that created by her colleagues on the medical staff. On this occasion first impressions were wildly inaccurate.

The receptionist in question has been spoken to and she apologised and assured me that it will not happen again. She did not realise it would cause offence. The reason for the chewing gum is that she is a smoker and thought the smell of smoke on her breath would be more offensive. She now uses mints.

All the staff have also been reminded that they must be professional at all times and conduct themselves accordingly.
