Have just had elective hip replacement surgery at Grantham and District hospital, Lincolnshire. After initial diagnosis in 2023 at Louth hospital, I attended a pre-assessment clinic at Grantham and District hospital in September. In March I was put on Mr Mahmoud's list for a total hip replacement procedure, and in due course admitted to Ward 1 Orthopaedic unit.
I arrived at the hospital and proceeded to complete the required pre-operative checks prior to receiving the anaesthesia and entering the operating theatre. The medical staff were all, without exception, attentive and focussed on the task in hand, instilling confidence and exhibiting competence. The surgeon and his team carried out the operation efficiently and with appropriate care and attention to the patient's wellbeing. At no point in the procedure did I feel vulnerable.
On returning to the ward the standard of nursing care continued to be excellent. The staff nurse, Juby, assigned to look after me, was conscientious and carried out her duties carefully and with calm assurance. The nurses and doctors worked very effectively as a team to deliver a professional, patient-centred service.
Further to my experience was the input of the physiotherapists prior to discharge. I was introduced to a programme of rehabilitative physio exercises and shown useful techniques for facilitating my ongoing recovery.
Both day and night staff were able to provide a first class service in every aspect of patient care and over the two days inpatient stay I and my fellow patients agreed that this hospital is a shining example of the very best of the NHS. I feel certain that I represent the views and feelings of all those who receive treatment in this dedicated hospital unit.
"A shining example of the very best of the NHS"
