"Very professional and I felt relaxed speaking to her."

About: Adult Health & Support Services / Occupational Therapy

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I felt the service was just 100% - they were on the ball right away. I was referred by my GP to the OT service. I kind of went into the service blind and thought “I’ll just see how it is” but I felt I understood what the service was about quickly with the information provided.

I saw the OT Kat every fortnight. She helped me by giving me different information sheets to take away, but explained all the information in the appointment before. We agreed different things I could do in between appointments. I learnt new strategies for managing things – I was almost doing things in the opposite way to how I had been doing them previously and felt much better! It was good to be able to try making changes and having someone to check-in with at each appointment about how I had been getting on with changing things – that made a big difference. I felt a bit nervous at the start, but Kat made me so relaxed – I felt able to communicate which can be hard when someone is feeling the way I have been feeling. Kat was very professional and I felt relaxed speaking to her.

I now feel much better in both my mood and how I am doing things day-to-day. I felt reassured as I know I can get back in touch if I need help again.

Many thanks for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your experiences of working alongside one of our occupational therapists in Primary Care, Kat.

I am delighted to read your story and pleased you have found the support offered helpful in developing strategies to help improve your mood and how you are managing day to day. It is great to hear you felt reassured and that you understood the role of occupational therapy.

I will share your post with Kat and our wider team. All feedback regarding our service is always gratefully received. It is always lovely to know the support offered has made a difference.

May I take this opportunity to wish you well,

Sam
