"Mental health in young children"

About: Children's Specialist Health Services / Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) General practices in Lanarkshire

(as a parent/guardian),

My son has autism and suffers with his mental health and anxiety. Since COVID he has suffered terribly with it. Recently he has gotten worse. He now no longer attends school, doesn't leave the house, doesn't sleep, talks to no one and is very withdrawn. GP won't help, phoned countless clinics, education is non existent, forms not been handed in on time (by school), MSP has been emailed.

The GP said to go to A&E, they won't even have a face to face appointment with him.

CAMHS did talking therapy, he is autistic and this done nothing for him but since the course is only 6 weeks long he is discharged.

Given medication for sleep, it's not helping, so told that's the highest he can get. So he has to just suffer.

School said they would be there for support and get him into another school that would be able to support his needs. Forms didn't go in on time. Took months for them to actually fill out and then told I had to refer him myself for a different school.

I never thought that in this day and age we would be letting our children suffer like this. I am completely disappointed in our healthcare and educational systems

.
I'm at my wits end with worry and getting no support.

Dear Parent,

I am sorry to hear of the difficulties you and your son have had and the concerns you raise about accessing appropriate support. You mention that you have now been discharged from CAMHS but you also mention a number of concerns you have in relation to your son.

I would be happy for you to contact me so I can look into this further to see if there are any resources or supports that would be helpful to consider.

Kind regards,

Jane Killin
