"In need of a hernia operation"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire University Hospital Monklands / General Surgery (Wards 4 & 7)

(as the patient),

I have been on the waiting list for a hernia operation for about 2 years now. It is becoming more uncomfortable by the day.

I contacted my Doctor about 6 Months ago as I was in so much pain. I got an appointment with a consultant at Monklands Hospital in February. After an examination, the consultant told me it was urgent and had to be done within 4 weeks.

After this time elapsed I decided to chase it up. Went round in circles for 2 1/2 days and gave up. Contacted my own Surgery and was told that they were too busy to chase it up and it was not their job anyhow, also told me that the consultant should have not given me a 4-week timeline.

I am in constant pain, my wife has dementia, and I do not know where to turn to next.

Dear Gesmond

I am sorry to hear about your lengthy wait for hernia surgery. Unfortunately, waiting times post-Covid are much longer than we would like them to be and can fully appreciate your concern.

If you would like to get in touch with us directly with your full details (appreciating that this is an anonymous forum) we would be happy to look into this further for you.

Please drop an email to me at lynn.mctavish2@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk and we will look into this further for you.

With best wishes

Lynn McTavish
