"Extremely professional and led with confidence"

About: Maternity care / Maternity

(as a service user),

I started having pains with reduced movement, phoned the RVH Maternity and they advised to attend, staff were all very reassuring. I was then admitted to ward E overnight. The pain was getting unbearable by 9am and my midwife (I think her name was Leanne) was so kind and understanding.

I was transferred to labour ward at 11am, where Sinead and Rachel looked after me.

I was not coping with labour at all but I was given pain relief and lots of reassurance to help my journey. I had to be induced and waters broken and by 9pm I was exhausted.

Our midwife overnight was Kathy, genuinely one of the kindest humans I've ever met. She ensured the room was kept calm and relaxed despite doctors coming in and out.

I was totally unprepared for the pain of labour and didn't cope well but I was never made feel like I was hindrance.

We eventually had our baby boy via suction cap. It had been a long labour and slightly traumatic. Kathy made me feel at ease as much as possible and we were able to have a laugh.

She was extremely professional and led the team with confidence.

I want to say thank you to everyone that looked after us but a very special thank you to Kathy.
