I was admitted to Antrim Area Hospital for an Induction. This was not my plan but I felt like I had no other choice. When I was arrived I was feeling a little upset about my situation and the care I had received up to that point.
That evening, the staff I met were lovely. In particular, the students in the assessment ward gave me a lot of their time and helped me feel more at ease about what was ahead of me. We were also seen by a Doctor named Jay who really helped us relax and had a lovely bedside manner, despite it being obvious that he was very busy.
I would spend the 3 days on the Induction Ward in Antrim Hospital. I sincerely regret not recording the name of the nurses/midwives who were working on these dates so I could thank them all individually. They are absolute heroes and I would not have made it as far as I did without them. In particular a female with a long blonde pony tail and Katherine are true angels. If I could pay them or give some sort of reward I would. They were so patient, compassionate and understanding. My experience made me feel so useless and powerless yet they really built me back up and gave me the courage to keep going. Furthermore, the Ward Sister on one of the night shift really went above and beyond to try and help me calm down and to rebuild my mental/physical energy which helped me make better decisions. I also wish to thank the support staff I met on these dates as their care and positive attitude made my hospital stay more bearable.
Eventually my baby was delivered by C-Section. This was a very scary procedure for me as I had not prepared for things to end this way and knew very little about the surgery. Again, I wish I could remember the names of the many staff who were present and assisted in the surgery. In particular two anaesthetists (one possibly named Ryan?) were absolute experts. I am also highly satisfied with the skill and beside manner of the female consultant who carried out the surgery and visited me afterwards. Finally, I wish to thank the theatre nurse or staff member who held me as I got my spinal, assisted me when I was sick and supported me once my husband had to leave with my baby. Without her support I absolutely would have panicked and felt very alone. I am so grateful to the entire c-section team for getting my baby here safely and for the standard of care that I received.
