"The sedation just didn't work"

About: New Stobhill Hospital / Endoscopy

(as the patient),

I recently had both an endoscopy and a colonoscopy. I took sedation as I am a very nervous person and my pain threshold isn't good.

Well endoscopy was fine. Didn't feel anything but OMG the colonoscopy was horrendous. The sedation just didn't work. I was in agony.

The nurse and the member of staff doing it were so lovely telling me I was doing great, but I didn't feel it.

That poor nurse's hand must be bruised from me squeezing it. I think I might need a stronger dose of sedation next time.

But overall the staff were brilliant and I can't fault them one bit.

Hi Learningzx35

I am so sorry that you felt your colonoscopy was very uncomfortable and I can only apologise that your experience was not a good one. There are many different factors as to how patient's manage this procedure.

On a positive side I am pleased that the support you received from the nursing staff was very well received and that the care you received was brilliant.

I will certainly pass on both your negative and positive comments to the team.

Thanks Margaret
