"Great experience of patient centred care"

About: Maternity care / Maternity Assessment Maternity care / Observation Led Unit Victoria Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

Last week we welcomed my fourth child into this world, baby girl (name pending), via c-section. The level of care and support I received, from when I arrived into maternity unit, in theatre, recovery and into the maternity ward, was fantastic.

The midwives were really incredibly friendly, personable and supportive during what was an anxious time for me and my husband - the department was busy however felt like my needs were important and they were forever clearly communicated to me throughout. It was clear that they had carried out great handovers as anyone new seemed to know me pretty well, which helped me and meant I didn’t have to repeat the same things over and over.

The surgeon clearly explained before the c-section what would happen and answered all my questions, which meant I wasn’t worrying about certain aspects of the procedure - they followed this up with constant and concise information during and after my procedure.

The theatre team were friendly and their professionalism and attention to detail helped keep me calm - a special shout out the the team member who was on the jukebox throughout!

My anaesthetist (Dr Cheong?) was excellent, spoke to me throughout, calmly and kept me so relaxed. He kept me updated on what was going on and reassured me when I was starting to feel funny, explaining why I was feeling light headed.

The midwifery team are a credit to NHS Fife - it seems unfair to single out individuals, however a special thank you to Sophie (made me laugh so much it hurt - or rather, hurt even more!), Amy (unbelievably caring) Anne (put me at ease throughout) and Lynne (Scotland beat baby hair washer).

Thank you all again - the first few seconds, minutes and hours of my daughters life were filled with care and love.

Dear Mum at ease,

Congratulations on the birth of your baby girl, I hope you are managing to get some rest during this exciting and busy time in your life.

Thank you very much for the lovely feedback of your recent experience whilst in our care. It is good to hear that you felt reassured the staff communicated well with each other, especially at handover.

I will personally pass on your thanks to the medical, anaesthetic and midwifery teams who will be delighted to hear your praise.

Wishing you and your family best wishes for the future.

from

Pamela
