"The course content is excellent"

About: Western Health & Social Care Trust / Diabetes Prevention Programme

(as a service user),

I had the opportunity to attend an online prediabetic course run by Carol.  This course took place across 18 sessions at night and lasted for 9 months.

Initially this seemed to be a very long course and I was not sure I would stick with it but I am delighted to say that I did and this was down to Carol delivering the course in a very engaging and encouraging way.

The course content is excellent and brings together many aspects of diabetes and how to take steps to avoid getting diabetes.  While the science of diabetes is complicated the steps to avoiding this disease are very straight forward and are within the grasp of anyone willing to make some small but life changing changes to diet, exercise, and positive thinking.

In the current environment of fast food and processed food I believe this course needs to reach a wider audience of all ages and needs to be mainstreamed as much as possible to ensure maximum impact on our population and the health and social care system.  I have no doubt that sustained  recurrent investment in this area of work could yield a high return both financially and non financially for healthier lifestyles and a reduced need for long term supports for people  with diabetes on the health service.

The results of this course for me clearly speak for themselves.

Dear phoenixsw54,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience of the Diabetes Prevention Programme (DPP) and engaging with Care Opinion platform. Your opinion and feedback of DPP is very important to the programme and indeed to others that may be offered a chance to engage with DPP moving forward.

The content of the programmes is excellent, as you mentioned and it is an objective for me to deliver DPP in a relaxed, enjoyable and friendly manner, highlighting the important points and areas of interest. Therefore I am so grateful that you acknowledge this in your feedback and found DPP an easy programme to follow and learn from.

Thank you also, for mentioning and supporting the need to sustain DPP. It has indeed great potential - "financially and non-financially".
