I was to be admitted as a day case onto a ward for surgery - sadly there was no beds available. ward did make avail some how so my surgery wasnt cancelled for that day. ward staff kept me updated on surgery list progress.
theatre staff were kind and very considerate to the surgery and bed issue.
post operatively, i was kept in recovery due to the bed situation. once again staff kept me updated and moved me to a more appropriate area post 1 hour of recovering from surgery.
theatre staff member came to check on me and apologised that i was kept in recovery.
staff kept me updated on what my plan was and discharge status.
discharge was delayed due to ward staff having to be released to come and speak to me. but this was no fault of anyones other than senior management. i could see ward and recovery staff were very under pressure with a so called 'bed crisis' this is ongoing everywhere. closure of hospitals and wards has lead to this which is causing alot of stress and burn out on floor staff. senior management need to come onto the floor, work and see whats actually going on. they need to experience the continuous phone calls dictating and how patients are disregarded as people.
"Great staff and appreciation for care"
