"Left feeling confused as to what to do"

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

I had an unsuccessful laparoscopic surgery. I initially attended the unit in 2021 and have had this surgery cancelled on the week of the surgery in 2023. Finally had it recently. Most members of staff when they saw my consent form signed in 2022 were shocked it’s been such a wait, which made me question if the wait time should have been this long.

The ward staff (nurses and HCAs) were brilliant, all very attentive, made sure I had everything I needed, asked if I needed another blanket or the window opening. They were brilliant.

The resident doctor explained the procedure very quickly in the morning, explained that there’s a 50% chance success rate and recommended the coil fitting during surgery - unsure why they haven’t recommended me to get the coil previously.

I was told going into surgery that they were pushing through their lunch, made me question, could this have been a rushed procedure?

Post surgery, the resident doctor rushed talking to me, could tell there was somewhere else they needed to be. I was still a bit out of it after GA. I couldn’t remember everything that was said except there wasn’t anything to be found and were discharging me from gynaecology

I understand from their perspective but I’ve had these pains since I was a teenager, extreme Hirsutism and have been told I have endometriosis and the difficulties I will face having children.

Now I have been discharged it has left me confused as to what to do.

I had to wait 2 hours after I could’ve been sent home as I didn’t understand what the rushed resident doctor was saying, to speak to another doctor to understand what was going on.

Very emotional and distressing and I am left in no greater comfort of why I’m having these symptoms. Although they did not find endometriosis, could there be another cause for my symptoms?

My appointment with the consultant was very rushed and abrupt so no other illnesses were brought to light to question why I’m experiencing these symptoms.

Further note, despite all staff being attentive it did take 45 mins for someone to change my dressing as it was covered in blood and was dripping down my stomach.
