"Staff do an incredible job under very difficult circumstances"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / General surgery

(as a relative),

My mother was admitted to forth valley royal hospital ward B12 with an abscess on her stomach which required immediate attention, she was in for 10 days.

Staff were excellent very attentive and kind with my mother. The only issue and no reflection on the staff that work in the ward is that there just wasn’t enough of them, the staff work tirelessly and are very much over worked, there was one weekend where there was one nurse looking after 20 patients. I feel this issue really needs to be addressed.

Again credit to the staff in B12 who do an incredible job under very difficult circumstances.

Dear composertm85,

I hope your mum is recovering well following her admission to B12.

Thanks so much for your kind words about the staff in B12, and despite the issue you have raised, you feel your mum received excellent care. I will pass this on to them, and I am sure they will appreciate your feedback.

I was made aware of this situation, and there was a shortfall of one Clinical Support Worker, and there was a further 2 Registered nurses to care for the patients in the ward. We look at staffing twice a day so we can mitigate any shortfalls to prevent situations such as you had observed. I hope that provides some reassurance for you and your mum.

Best regards

Heather Riddoch, Lead Nurse.
