"Phenomenal care from start to finish"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Accident & Emergency Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Cardiology University Hospital Hairmyres / Coronary Care Unit

(as a service user),

I received phenomenal care from start to finish at every level when I was admitted to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary with a heart attack. I was promptly assessed and monitored throughout. Despite an incredibly busy department over the Easter bank Holiday weekend the staff were cheerful and helpful. I was moved to the Critical Care Unit for further monitoring and again received excellent care and attention. Furthermore, when my condition deteriorated the staff were rapid, calm, reassuring and clear and arranged for my transfer to Hairmyres.

Again in Hairmyres I was astounded at the speed, efficiency and excellence of the staff there. I was met by Staff Nurse Catriona who was swift, calm and clearly very experienced and prepared me for my PCI procedure while also reassuring and communicating events to my family members.

I could not have felt more secure in her care.

The PCI procedure itself was remarkably painless and swift and again Dr Pell was incredibly reassuring.

Post procedure the amazing care continued overnight before I was transferred back to DGRI the following day where again the Critical Care unit team were phenomenal.

I have now been discharged and cannot thank enough every staff member at every point of my admission, between DGRI ED, HDU, Hairmyres CCU and finally DGRI Ward D8. I have been astounded at the level of care, attention and cheers despite the pressures of a busy bank holiday weekend.

Thank you so much.

Dear DerekM

Thank you for your feedback in which you comment about the phenomenal care you received from start to finish at every level after being admitted to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary following a heart attack. I am glad to hear your experience was so positive and that you received exemplary care from the medical teams.

I was particularly pleased to note that at what must have been a frightening and alarming time for you and your family when your condition deteriorated, the team acted rapidly whilst remaining calm and reassuring and arranged your transfer to Hairmyres Hospital where your excellent care continued.

I will share your feedback with the staff and departments involved, as I know they will appreciate your kind words. We are fortunate to have such committed and dedicated staff within NHS Dumfries and Galloway and positive feedback such as yours is always well received.

I hope that you are recovering well, and once again, thanks for taking time out of your day to post such positive feedback.

Best regards,

Dear DerekM,

Thank you for sharing your experience of University Hospital Hairmyres, Coronary Care Unit.

What a frightening Easter bank holiday weekend you have had! I am so pleased to hear that you have had outstanding care from Catriona, Dr Pell and the whole team within the Coronary Care Unit. I am delighted to hear that Catriona was swift in her actions but ensured that you were supported and that your family were being updated and supported as well. This would have been very reassuring to know that you didn't need to worry about your family being kept informed. I am glad to hear that your PCI procedure was painless.

I look forward to pass on your feedback to the whole team, especially Catriona, who I am sure will take great pride in hearing your kind words and will get a real boost from this.

I hope you are recovering well.

Kind Regards,

Jenni
