I came to Wishaw day surgery in April 2024 for what you call ORIF (Open Reduction and Internal Fixation) ankle fracture surgery by Mr Chan.
I can’t thank you enough for the care and compassion you’ve shown me, you really took good care of me and I haven’t stopped telling people how wonderful you all were.
From the second I arrived in the early morning with my son pushing my wheelchair we saw this gentleman as we came out of the lift probably on his way home from a night shift, he asked if we’re going to the day surgery and walked all the way back to open the doors for us what an angel, he didn’t have to do that.
Everyone was wonderful, doctors, nurses and the clinical support staff. I felt like I was surrounded by angels. I was sitting on my wheelchair outside the toilet waiting for one of the nurses to take me back to my bed, this beautiful lady doctor or nurse was walking past the department, she wheeled me back to my bed and took time to speak to me asking how I injured myself and told me her daughter had the same injury and how she made a full recovery after a surgery which was comforting to hear. And the lovely nurse who gave me advice about contacting my insurance to cancel my proposed holiday which I thought was too late to get anything back.
All I prayed for was for the surgery to be successful. In all honesty, I wasn’t expecting to receive this much care and compassion, the reason is, I had two awful experiences with a hospital care system in London where I used to live, when I gave birth to my two boys, which scarred me for life. Although I’m forever grateful for the wonderful doctors who saved my unborn baby’s life as the birth became an emergency and traumatic. But, the aftercare was just as awful as when I went in for my first child.
I believe showing care and compassion to patients plays a big role in speeding up the healing process.
Thank you again from the bottom of my heart ❤️ God bless you all
