The wait times for the GIC are absolutely shocking. I have been told that I have to wait 5 years for a first appointment. NHS Scotland doesn't have to segregate trans healthcare this way. It's all well and good telling me they're trying to reduce them, but there hasn't, actually, been a reduction. My mental health is atrocious, and I have had to use my PIP money in order to pay for private healthcare, because I can't wait that long and live.

Dear Thewaffle

Over recent years we have seen an increase in the number of people contacting the Gender Service seeking support, advice, and treatment. Unfortunately, we are experiencing longer waiting times than we would like, and we sincerely apologise for the upset and distress this is causing. We are currently looking at different ways to try to reduce our waiting times.

I do understand why the wait times exist; I just think that probably the easiest way to fix them is to desegregate trans healthcare. Knowing you're trying to fix them is nice, but it doesn't do much to help my situation.
