"Feeling let down"

About: Kettering General Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

After taking an overdose, I was asked to present myself to A&E at Kettering General Hospital.

I was sat on a chair for hours without being checked. Once I was taken to have bloods taken, the nurse couldn't find an appropriate vein and had hit a nerve and my arm was trembling - I told the nurse they were hurting me and they said it was just because my blood wasn't draining so they removed this needle and tried again from my hand.

Three hours or so later a Dr came to administer some medication through an IV drip to counteract the medication that I had taken but I started having an allergic reaction and couldn't find anyone to stop the medication.  My hand and arm was swelling, red and painful.

A Dr came and stopped the medicine and said they would come back with a different medication - 3 hours later and the doctor still hadn't returned. I removed the cannula and walked out and went home - this was 3am.

At 1 the following afternoon I received a phone call from a nurse asking where I was!!!

Considering I was in the hospital for taking an overdose, being left in a waiting area is a serious matter of medical negligence I think! I could have literally been slowly dying on the chair.

Feeling let down when you are already at breaking point really isn't good!
