Because I had been feeling a bit low and run down I decided to book a GP appointment.  My GP decided to take a blood sample and send it away for tests.  On receipt of the results my GP decided to refer me for further tests at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy.

I was then contacted by Georgia from the RCDS team.  I must admit this phone call came as a bit of a shock.  My GP did not explain to me that the referral was to the RCDS unit and of course the word cancer floored me.  However after this initial shock Georgia put me at ease and explained everything in detail and I also went online to find out more about the service.

Georgia made all the necessary appointments for a CT scan and more blood samples.  This all happened extremely quickly and the speed of service from Georgia's call to me getting the results was impressive.  It all happened within days.

Wonderful is how I would describe the service.  My GP has not been in contact to discuss the results, which were clear, but I thought they might have wanted to discuss the results.  Thanks to the RCDS team everyone was kind and considerate.

Dear rcdsal52

Thank you for sharing your recent care experience with us. My name is Murdina Macdonald and I am the professional Lead Nurse for RCDS. We appreciate your openness in detailing your journey, and we’re pleased to hear that the service you received was wonderful and left a positive impression.

We understand that receiving a referral to the RCDS unit and the word cancer can be overwhelming, especially without prior explanation. We are sorry for any distress this may have caused. However, we’re glad to hear that Georgia was able to provide you with detailed information and put you at ease during your initial phone call. It’s reassuring to know that she guided you through the process and ensured you were well-informed about the next steps.

Providing timely care is a top priority for us, and we’re thrilled that we were able to meet your expectations in this regard.

We are delighted that your results were clear. Given that your results were clear and no follow-up care was expected it’s understandable that there was not an expectation by the GP for a follow-up call. We will certainly take this feedback onboard and I will discuss it with our lead ACNS (Advanced Clinical Nurse Specialist). Moving forward, we will aim to confirm with patients whether they should expect a call from their GP following a consultation at our service

Once again, thank you for sharing your feedback with us.

Warm Regards

Murdina
