"I’m unsure of how I get an appointment"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire

(as a service user),

I saw a GP over a year ago regarding a mental health concern. I was told by the GP  I would be referred to the appropriate service.

I have since heard nothing. I appreciate referrals take a long time, however I feel my symptoms are worsening. I also have some other physical symptoms I wish to discuss with the GP. My concern is that I cannot get a GP appointment.

I phone at 8.30am sharp to get cut off on the phone line. Eventually when you get through there is no appointments available and the staff tell you to phone again tomorrow, this happens every day.

I appreciate the staff on reception are under pressure, but I have found them rude and abrupt on the phone.

I’m unsure of how I get an appointment.

Dear Cat19,

Thank you for sharing your experience of your GP on Care Opinion.

I am so sorry to hear of the problem you have had getting an appointment with your GP to discuss your symptoms worsening following the discussion about a referral 12 months ago. I am disappointed to hear that the receptionists have been rude and abrupt. Regardless of how busy things are this falls short of the expectations we have of staff.

GP’s are independent contractors and are responsible for investigating and responding to any concerns a person may have about the service; they are not registered to respond directly to feedback through Care Opinion. Can I please invite you to contact the Practice Manager if you would like a direct response about the service? You can also contact Primary Care Patient Affairs for advice or guidance, I have included their contact details.
