"Occupational Therapy advice for arthritis in the hands"

About: Occupational Therapy / Occupational Therapy - Outpatient Hand Service

(as the patient),

I was referred for a consultation to Occupational Therapy to help me to manage worsening arthritis in my hands.  My OT was Asma who I found to be very friendly and approachable, she listened well and was very knowledgeable about how to treat my condition.  She gave me a number of aids to use if and when I need them and advised me how to keep my hands as protected and healthy as possible.  I saw her again 2 weeks later and she then gave me exercises to do and explained them fully.  I then saw her 6 weeks after that and was able to see the benefit of doing the exercises and a marked improvement in my grip strength.  I found the sessions very useful and I see how important protecting my hands through strengthening exercises and extra care is for the future.
