"I thought my waters broke"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / EOU Emergency Obstetric Unit

(as a service user),

I went to the Antrim hospital EOU department I think it’s called because I thought my waters had broke.

Mary, a midwife and literally one of the nicest women I’ve ever met in my life made me feel completely at ease reassured me and talked me through everything that was happening and going to happen.

Did all the necessary tests to check my waters hadn’t broken while keeping me calm and they even fed me because I hadn’t eaten since my breakfast that morning.

My waters hadn’t broke thankfully as I’m 36 weeks and it’s a bit too early so a false alarm but I came away feeling completely relaxed with all questions answered.

Hands down one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in this whole pregnancy in regards to medical care and the professionalism but at the same time Mary was like having your mum with you in the comfort she was able to give. I hope to see her when I am really in labour!

And shout out to all the midwife’s there they were absolutely fantastic and a credit to their profession.

Dear bargainxh54,

I have only recently received an alert to highlight your feedback so apologies that I am only replying now.

I am delighted to read of your experience under the care of Mary and that you felt relaxed and reassured. Thankyou for your comments about all of our midwives. I will ensure that this is shared with everyone.

I hope that the remainder of your maternity experience was as positive.

Kind Regards to you and your family,

Louisa Lapworth

Interim Lead Midwife for Antrim Maternity
