When a friend presented themselves this morning with acute suicidal ideation. I did my part to safeguard them. Having felt bereft to prior admissions and being fobbed off. They had very little hopes or faith in the mental health system to provide adequate and necessary support.
The situation became volatile and aggressive fairly quickly, having de escalated several times dangerous altercations where my friend was threatening themselves, and others.
Upon contacting NHS24, they suggested to perhaps go for a walk, come home, have a warm bath and paint a pretty little picture as it might make them feel better.
Let me assure you, they were/are beyond that level of support.
The long and short of this situation, lead to my friend having been discharged from hospital several times this week. At least 3 of those situations I was able to get police Scotland to intervene and admit them to the Victoria.
Each admission led to my friend speaking with UCAT. UCAT confirmed them to be safe and well enough to go home. Yet hours later, my friend was deeper into their idealations, becoming more despondent, lacklustre, and withdrawn.
What my friend needs is a temporary respite with trained mental health professionals. Not a concerned friend running around like a Blue Fly ensuring they do not harm themselves or others. All the while, I myself having to curtail my own mental health, put my own wellbeing on a back burner and stay strong in this moment of crisis.
I did my part, a long with a mutual friend. I was able to get through to social services, as my last port of call. Who have provided the necessary information to assist my friend in their advocacy needs.
The care and compassion for mental health (or lack thereof) in NHS Fife is utterly abhorrent, and I'm inclined to take this through Hell and High Water.
I've noticed on this forum, such a lackadaisical, care less approach is not an isolated situation.
Thankfully, myself and my friend are both safe, and have found a reasonable resolve.
P.S. Whom do I call regarding my 12hr wages?
"What is it going to take?"
