"Seemingly effortless ability to make the kids laugh"

About: Dr Gray's Hospital / Paediatric Unit

(as a parent/guardian),

My 3 year old was poorly two weeks ago and, after being checked over at our GP surgery, I was advised to take him to see the paediatrician. My son was monitored for a few hours, over which time we were seen by various members of staff, all of whom I could not praise enough for their care. My son was given open access to the ward once they were happy for him to go home, and I was very grateful that they then extended this as my son was still poorly later that week. We ended up back in the ward so they could get a urine sample and, again, the staff were brilliant.

On both of these occasions, Jamie (Play Leader) was there. Both my 3 year old and my oldest son are familiar with Jamie, as they both require blood tests twice a year and annual scans, and Jamie has always been in attendance for these the past few years.  Whilst my 3 year old was in to be monitored, Jamie made sure my son was kept entertained, watching a Paw Patrol DVD and got an ice lolly for him. He even got some playdoh and colouring books, which we were kindly given to take home.

Whilst we were up to have a urine sample checked for my 3 year old, I also had my 6 year old son with me. This was much to the delight of my 6 year old, as he is really fond of Jamie! Jamie was quick to offer snacks and pictures to colour, and even let my son wear his hospital ID badge, so my son was chuffed to bits and Jamie drew on the photo, which my son found hilarious. He also let my son accompany him to the kitchen to put in the dinner orders for that evening. Much to the nurses amusement, my 6 year old asked if we could go back the next day when we were leaving to go home.

Jamie is truly an asset to the team at Dr Grays. His cheery welcome and his seemingly effortless ability to make the kids laugh, along with the fact that nothing ever seems like any bother to him. You can tell that he genuinely cares about the job he's doing and it's a job that Jamie does perfectly.

Dear EA2830,

Thank you for taking the time to send this wonderful feedback. I'll be sure to share this with Jamie and the children's ward team.

Jamie is a shining star within our Dr Gray's team and it's heartwarming to hear that he made your sons time with us a little more enjoyable. Hospitals can be quite scary places for children so Jamie's endless ability to take their minds of this through play is a great asset as you've said.

I wish yourself and your sons well and hope they continue to look forward to their annual visits to be entertained by Jamie.

Kind regards,

Louise
