"Dad is home and doing very well, thank you NHS!"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Intensive Care Unit Ninewells Hospital / Plastic Surgery & Burns Ninewells Hospital / Surgical High Dependency Unit

(as a relative),

My dad was brought back from abroad after falling seriously unwell last year. When he arrived in the ICU at Ninewells he was one of the sickest patients there, but the care and attention from all the staff there, to my dad, my mum when she was visiting and to me and my sister, was great. Always available for an update and making sure dad was as settled as possible, which I know was difficult at times.

He was transferred to a surgical ward, where he took a while to feel a bit more like himself. I can't claim staff were always available for an update or even said hello when you walked on the ward, but my dad made good progress there with their help.

A special thanks to Adam, a Health Care Assistant on the ward, who had time for my dad's chat and helped make him feel like a human again, making sure he was clean shaven and eating well!

The physios worked hard to make sure dad was able to mobilise again too, so a big thank you to them as well.

Dad is home and doing very well, thank you NHS!

Thank you very much for taking the time to feedback on yours dads care experience that he received whilst in ICU. It is lovely to receive such positive comments which I will feedback to the whole team including the physios. Your feedback is important to us and helps identify good nursing practices that make a difference and as a consequence boosts staff morale.

It is wonderful news to hear that your dad is home and doing well and on behalf of the ICU team, we wish him well in the future.

Kind regards

Dear Yellowduck14,

Thank you for taking time to share feedback on the care your dad received while on the ward. Firstly, Can I apologise that staff were not always available for an update or an opportunity to say hello, I will share this with the team to allow for some team learnings however I am glad your dad made progress on the ward and recovering well at home.

I will also convey your special thanks for Adam who I am sure would be delighted with your feedback.

Once again, thanks for sharing your feedback as this allow us to identify practice to be celebrated or improved.

We wish your dad a continuous recovery.
