My dad was brought back from abroad after falling seriously unwell last year. When he arrived in the ICU at Ninewells he was one of the sickest patients there, but the care and attention from all the staff there, to my dad, my mum when she was visiting and to me and my sister, was great. Always available for an update and making sure dad was as settled as possible, which I know was difficult at times.
He was transferred to a surgical ward, where he took a while to feel a bit more like himself. I can't claim staff were always available for an update or even said hello when you walked on the ward, but my dad made good progress there with their help.
A special thanks to Adam, a Health Care Assistant on the ward, who had time for my dad's chat and helped make him feel like a human again, making sure he was clean shaven and eating well!
The physios worked hard to make sure dad was able to mobilise again too, so a big thank you to them as well.
Dad is home and doing very well, thank you NHS!
