"Problems with Patient Access"

About: Deddington Health Centre

My recent experience in ordering a repeat prescription via Patient Accees was not good. They appear to have added another layer of security which requires a 6 figure code to be sent to your mobile phone. The problem is that the poor phone reception in Deddington means that the code either comes hours later or not at all. Given Patient Access already has password and other protection it's not obvious why this extra layer should be added. If it's really needed then it should also have a landline verification option. The helpful people at the pharmacy suggested that I use the NHS app instead (or indeed revert to paper and pen!). Luckily the NHS app worked even though it also required a texted security code - but if I've understood correctly then that is needed only on the first occasion and not subsequently. I understand that I'm not the only one to have had this experience but that Deddington Health centre is not able to avoid this text security code unnecessary (in my opinion) layer. However it might be helpful for the Surgery to let Patient Access know that there is a real problem here, and that a land line option should be added to any phone verification step if they really consider it is actually needed.

We are sorry to hear that you are having difficulties with Patient Access, the Pharmacist helped by guiding you towards the NHS App which was a more efficient solution for you.

The NHS App is now the most favoured online service app for the majority of our patients and we recently made the decision to advise our patients that the NHS App is the ideal online service app for most patients. We are still able to provide a Patient Access account but this is only when specific criteria are met.

You may wish to provide your feedback to Patient Access via their website: https://patient.info/feedback

You can also contact NHS Digital via their website should you wish to feedback on the NHS App: https://digital.nhs.uk/about-nhs-digital/contact-us
