Our elderly mum transferred to a Nursing Home following a period in ward 6C Gartnavel General Hospital. Mum had delirium following a fall causing a fracture of her humerus. Her recovery was slow and sadly she did not fully recover resulting in her not being able to return home.
The nursing staff in ward 6C under the leadership of SCN Gemma were approachable, professional and caring towards mum and us as a family. The Nurses and HCSW’s demonstrated great expertise and knowledge in their care of mum. Alice, Eddie and Amy in particular stood out in their compassion for their patients. Gemma, Lisa, Natalie and Ruth RGN’s for their professionalism and approachability. Lynne the liaison CPN for her care, compassion and professionalism and for helping us as a family to understand the impact of delirium. The student nurses we met were certainly gaining great experience and all demonstrated that they will be very able nurses in the future and are a credit to their University ( I can’t remember all their names but Hannah, Kat, Amy and the student with a lovely smile and beautiful dark curly hair stand out. The catering staff took time to get to know each patient and showed great care and support.
There were some things that inevitably didn’t go well, however when we raised any concerns as a family about mum's care they were listened to without judgement and acted upon quickly. Overall, mum was kept safe and well cared for during her lengthy stay and we are grateful to all staff involved in her care.
"Kept safe and well cared for"
