"Allowed me to get my life back and my confidence"

About: Badenoch & Strathspey Community Hospital General Practices in NHS Highland Raigmore Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as a service user),

I had continuous and distressing symptoms regarding issues around swallowing and salicylate intolerance for thee years which had been unceremoniously dumped by the hospital;

As the problem worsened, I, in  a very distressed state, made an appointment with the local G.P. and was given an appointment with a bright young thing, a student whose energy and eagerness pleasantly surprised me. She re visited the whole issue and was too, dissatisfied with the previous outcome and like a terrier with a bone refused to let it go.

Happily I have to say with a new designated consultant Dr. Fraser in Gastroenterology department at Raigmore Hospital to deal with my woes, I felt a sudden ray of hope. She is a wonderful matter of fact lady separating off the two conditions and dealing with them both separately and again true to her word she went over and above her role speaking with the immunologist and the dietician. Suddenly I was propelled into a new and uplifting situation armed with new knowledge and solutions to help me cope.

I was given an appointment with dietician Fiona at the Dietetics Clinic at Badenoch and Strathspey Community Hospital and off I went for what only could be described as gut counselling with her.

After three years on the strictest and most miserable deprived diets designed to eliminate Salicylate, during which time, I could only eat nineteen things in the world and only half f that went down!  It was so restrictive but with the the help of the dietician and my family I crawled out from under a stone and went on holiday to St Lucia and ate everything in site and have never looked back.

Today I was signed off with an array of useful tips allowing me to get my life back and my confidence.

It just goes to show when the NHS gets it right there is no-one better.

Thank you to you ALL and here's hoping that young student never loses that enquiring mind throughout her career and becomes world weary!

Dear Gutgag

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your lovely feedback.

I am sorry for the delay in acknowledging your correspondence.

Dr Fraser was very pleased to receive your kind words and is delighted to hear that you are enjoying food, and life again.

It is wonderful to hear of your positive experience. Your kind comments are very much appreciated and will be shared with the individuals and teams involved, especially the "bright, young student".

I hope that any further interaction with NHS Highland services will be just as positive.

With kind regards
