Yesterday I went to a local chemist with a sore eye as I had been there last week and was swabbed and given antibiotics for strep throat (because I was told my GP no longer looks at throats)
The chemist advised to see an optician. I did same and was examined by my optican later in the morning. The optician emailed to the eye casualty for advise.
I got a phone call from the optician who informed me that eye casualty replied and advised that I would need to get the medication from GP.
Went to ballygomartin group practice and receptionist was so so rude, never asked my details and they said they couldn't give that and would need letter from hospital. I asked to speak with GP as i only needed a prescriotion for a change in antibiotics. I was told by the receptionist to ring the doctors and request a GP call back. I came outside and rang and was advised no apps until Thursday or Friday. I explained this was not suitable as i need the antibiotics today. Again, the receptionist was very rude, never even took my details and just said to go to hospital as there was no appointments.
I then went to eye casualty in RVH who my optician had been in touch with earlier to advise of my diagnosis and change of antibiotics needed. They advised they could not give antibiotics because they had not seen me. They advised I attend RVH ED. I then went to ED
I am so angry and frustrated that I ended up having to go to ED for a non emergency case when all I wanted was a change in antibiotics. I think this is an absolute disgrace and waste of time and resources.
Was sent to zone c in Royal and waited to be seen and was eventually given the meds.
A whole day running about and chasing up different departments for an antibiotic that could could have been if the receptionist at my GP would had have listened and even took my details.
The staff nurse (Marcella) and Dr (Dr Leech) went above and beyond and had me sorted with the same meds that were needed.
