My son has complex medical issues and requires regular blood tests in PTU in RBHSC. He unfortunately now suffers from medical trauma after everything he has been through, which is making getting his bloods increasingly difficult.
One of his fabulous consultants, Dr Callaghan, suggested trying to get a play therapist for his recent bloods. Unfortunately PTU doesn’t have a play therapist assigned to them (which I feel is a need in this department).
Thankfully Lindsey from outpatients very kindly came round and helped. It took several attempts to get his bloods which obviously was traumatic, but his behaviour was definitely improved with how great the play therapist was with him.
I just wish there was one there in PTU you could guarantee would be there at every visit for continuity. These kids would really benefit from this!
