I attended the Endoscopy unit for a Flexible Sigmoidoscopy and cannot fault the service I received. I was called on time for my appointment, the procedure was fully explained to me and I was made to feel safe and at ease throughout. The staff are obviously very busy and have lots of patients to see but it felt as though I was their only patient, they were attentive, friendly yet professional and caring.
The procedure went well, I chose not to have a sedative or gas and air but it wasn't painful, there was just a bit of discomfort here and there. They took a few biopsies but even with them doing that, it didn't take long at all, the process from start to finish (arriving in the waiting room to discharge) is obviously a well-oiled machine and runs like clockwork... I was in and out well within 2 hours which is brilliant.
I sat in the discharge room with a cup of tea and some biscuits before leaving which was much needed after 26 hours with no food or tea with milk!
The NHS gets a bad rep but the staff are doing a brilliant job in often difficult circumstances and don't get enough praise for the good work they do.
Thank you to the lovely team in the Endoscopy unit, keep doing what you're doing, you're all amazing!
"The staff are doing a brilliant job"
