"Extremely supportive and reassuring"

About: Highland Community Services / Breastfeeding Support Service

(as the patient),

I was referred to Lana when my daughter was a couple of weeks old as I had cracked nipples, a breast infection, ductal thrush and my daughter had thrush as well as a tongue tie (which was due to be assessed and later snipped).

I was was very keen to breastfeed my 2nd baby (as I had done with my 1st) however I had experienced a very traumatic birth (with my daughter spending time in SCBU). I was extremely sore, doubting myself and worried as my daughter was not gaining weight.

I met with Lana and she was extremely supportive and reassuring. Lana observed me feeding, gave me advice on my daughter's latch, and offered advice on treatments and how to apply creams the doctors had provided me.

Lana checked in with me for numerous weeks after we had met, and she was always there at the end of the phone if I needed with sound advice and reassurance. Her support was crucial in giving me the confidence to continue breastfeeding and I was extremely grateful for the time, genuine care and understanding that Lana showed me when I was feeling extremely vulnerable and confused.

Six months later and my daughter is still EBF and thriving. Thank you, Lana.

Dear Roxy24,

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter and thank you for taking the time out to tell us about your story so far and well done for exclusively breastfeeding at 6 months - that is amazing.

Thank you for also highlighting that being an experienced mum from a previous journey does not mean that furture journeys will be problem free and I was sorry to read that you had a traumatic start. It is vital that we ensure that every breastfeeding journey is taken on an individual basis and you describe exactly that with the support that Lana has provided you. It is great to hear too how you felt supported and that Lana provided genuine care and time and also recognised how our service doesn't end in particular points in your breastfeeding journey but continues for as long as you need it.

I will pass this on to Lana as she will be delighted to hear how she helped you both and how the support provided was crucial to support your confidence to grow.

Thank you again

Kind regards

Karen Mackay
