"Waiting times at A&E"

About: Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick children / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

We arrived to emergency service with a toddler that hadn't had a poo within the last 6 days. Straining every 3 minutes, in pain, trying to go to the toilet, and we have been waiting for 6.5h.

The waiting time seems to be getting longer and longer every time you check. I am totally aware of how triage works, and thankfully that my child was not top priority. But no child should be waiting for 6.5h in a waiting room. Services need to improve.

Hello, thank you for your feedback with regard to RBHSC Emergency Department. I am sorry that your child had to attend and was waiting this length of time to be seen. I hope that your child has received the treatment required and is feeling better. I apologise for the length of time your child had to wait, and agree that it is not acceptable. The Management Team in RBHSC are actively exploring solutions to address the waiting times in RBHSC Emergency Department. If you would like to contact me directly to discuss, my email is caroline.mccloskey@belfasttrust.hscni.net.
