"Every member of staff stands out in a different way"

About: Gilbert Bain Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

I had my first born at the bottom end of England. My second, due any day, I am under the care of GBH.

It’s like another world. I have been listened to, and cared for so attentively and by people who really make you feel secure and safe. For a lot of my appointments, I have my little boy with me. He’s not quite three.

With every visit in, all the nurses and midwives stick their heads out to say hello to him. They interact and play and find him juice, fruit, toast, even a cheeky chocolate bar here and there. A few times they’ve actually just taken him out of my room just to play with him, running up and down the corridors and letting him bounce the big labour balls around. Absolute maniacs! The care is beyond impressive.

Truly, this is such a special hospital. Every member of staff is so valued, so kind, every member of staff stands out in a different way and they’re incredible.

Coming from a city where I wouldn’t let my son be over ten feet away from me, a hospital I couldn’t wait to escape from, where I wasn’t listened to or respected, to being in a hospital where working staff members have the energy, time, willpower, to go above and beyond -every single time- I have visited? It’s magical. I can’t thank the staff enough.

The cleaning staff, the maternity staff, the receptionists, the doctors and nurses and workers I pass in the corridors, every single one has had a smile, a hello, a chatter of reassurance and laughter as my toddler pelts off round a corner.

I have been in GBH weekly for the last six months, sometimes multiple times a week, sometimes five out of six days, sometimes for 10 hours at a time, and every single time has been the same. They work so hard, and they’re brilliant at what they do. Thank you. ❤️

Dear Spicyjanko

Thank you so much for the lovely feedback, it really is appreciated.

I’ve shared it with the staff in maternity and they are really humbled by your comments.
