"Birth Experience"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Maternity Care (Wards 21-24)

(as a service user),

I had my little girl 12 weeks ago and unfortunately it was a very traumatic birth due to complications during labour. I had to have an emergency c-section and it was very frightening. I just wanted to say that the care I received was absolutely excellent, and I cannot thank Dr Anna and my midwife Eleanor for everything that they did for me that night to ensure my baby arrived safely. My midwife, Eleanor, never left my side during that time and made me feel supported, calm and safe. After the birth, she was so caring, kind and compassionate when I was trying to process what had happened. Dr Anna was so professional, kind and explained what was happening so clearly. The other members of the team including the anaesthetist were also so kind and caring towards me during a very scary time. I just want to say thank you for making such a traumatic delivery as smooth as possible and providing me with support when I needed it. My baby would not be here without their knowledge and expertise and I am forever grateful to them.

Dear AlHat24,

Thank you for sharing your experience of University Hospital Wishaw, Maternity Care.

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter!

I am sorry to hear that you had a traumatic time during the birth, I can only imagine how frightening this must have been for you, especially getting an emergency C-Section and having complications in labour prior to that. I am so pleased to hear that Eleanor and Anna provided you with excellent support and information around what was happening and why. This will have went some way to reassuring you. Our fantastic midwives and doctors do all they can to ensure babies arrive safely, and the mums are well looked after too.

I will ensure your kind words are passed to Dr Anna and Eleanor as well as the wider team. I am sure they will be very proud knowing their actions and attitudes allowed you to have a positive birth experience, despite the worrying situation.

I hope you are all settling well into family life.

Kind Regards,

Jenni
